The "loose banjo string" in the pond
This is the frog that makes the GLUNK sound that is often compared to the sound of plucking a loose banjo string.
Although they are called "green frogs" they vary greatly in color from mostly green to mostly brownish with a metallic bronze sheen on their back. Males have a very large eardrum with a "button" in the center. The bright green upper lip and the pattern of markings on the lower lip and underside can make for a surprisingly beautiful pond frog. Like the scars on bullfrog snouts, green frog individuals can be identified by these markings.
